Who We Are

The Spiritualism NZ Board members are volunteers involved in a wide range of spiritual activities, keen to develop spirituality in New Zealand and support those interested in the spiritual field.

We’re a friendly group, working together to ultimately enhance people’s lives through spiritual involvement.

Meet the Board

President

Joanne Duncan

Joanne has been involved with spiritualism for over 30 years, has served on the Porirua Spiritualist Church committee in various roles since 1993 and currently is president of that church. She is a registered healer and does mediumship at her local spiritual centres and churches as well as those further afield.

Since taking on the role of National President of the Spiritualist Church of New Zealand (SCNZ) in 2015, Joanne has worked with a group of passionate, knowledgeable people on developing a clear vision for how the SCNZ could evolve and refresh itself, leading to the formation of Spiritualism NZ.

As described in the constitution, the President’s role is to chair Board meetings and the AGM, exercise general supervision of SNZ business, and undertake other functions as the Board decides from time to time.

Fun fact: In 2014 she learnt what it means to be truly star struck about people when she had an up close encounter with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (as they were then known) during their visit to her workplace.

Vice President

Sue Boyle

Sue has worked with Spirit for over 40 years as a channel for their wisdom words, healing and performing house cleansings and blessings. She moved to Upper Hutt and joined the spiritualist church, meeting like-minded people.

She works on church platforms and as a reader and healer for the Oasis Healing Centre. The idea of bringing people together to support and empower them motivates her to be part of Spiritualism NZ.

Her role on the Board is to support the President, work on the Events subcommittee, facilitate and organise webinars throughout the year, and travel around NZ supporting organisations and centres with mediumship and workshops, helping them move forward or receive training and knowledge.

Fun fact: She is a gardening nut and grows vegetables and fruits to keep her grounded and outside.

Treasurer and Healing Coordinator

Anne Roughton

Anne got serious about her spiritual journey around 20 years ago when she joined the Oasis Centre healing group, some local Spiritual Churches and Barnardos NZ all within a few years of each other.

She is passionate about empowering people in the community to help and heal themselves. She is a qualified healer and does mediumship at her local spiritual centres. She is currently president of the Upper Hutt Spiritualist Church and runs development classes and public workshops.

Her role on the Board includes managing Spiritualism NZ’s finances as treasurer, and overseeing the training of registered healers.

Registrar

Amanda Cartridge

Amanda was born a Spiritualist although she was unaware of the term until much later in life when she encountered her first Spiritualist Church. She has a passion for learning and development and has dedicated her career and personal life to continuous improvement and personal growth. She now combines the experience she has acquired in both areas to assist one-on-one practitioners to reach a larger audience through online or in-person learning experiences.

In her role on the Board as Registrar, she supports our members by overseeing all aspects of membership and warmly responding to their enquiries. In her role as Lead on the National Spiritual Day Committee, she works with a team of people to raise awareness of all things spiritual and promote celebrations on the 22 September.

Fun Fact: While she has travelled to 70 countries, Tekapo is still her favourite place in the world. She really appreciates home when she returns to New Zealand.

Richard has been involved in Spiritualism for 10 years in this lifetime, following in the footsteps of both his father and grandfather. He has held several officer positions in his local Spiritual Church, including President. He endeavours to keep a youthful soul by teaching others. His special passion is Healing.

His role on the Board involves keeping an eye on things and being pleasant to everyone.

Fun fact: Richard believes that “You won’t know about it (Spiritualism) until you have tried it”.

Kim Chamberlain

Kim has worked in the field of personal and spiritual development for over 20 years. She channels information that helps people take steps forward in life, which she shares via readings, books, newsletters, meditations, webinars, and YouTube videos.

Her role on the Board involves facilitating the Promotions subcommittee, managing the YouTube channel, organising the mini-seminars, and helping to update the website and the directory.

Board Member

Lyn Herriot

Based in Wellington, Lyn has been a part of the spiritual movement since attending her first spiritual retreat in the UK in 2008. On return to NZ in 2009 she continued her spiritual connection by being a regular attendee at Wellington’s spiritual church where she assisted with spiritual healing and gave readings.

She is a Reiki Master/Teacher and a registered Spiritual Healer, having discovered that she was born an energy healer; this is her never-ending passion in life. She has experience in many holistic therapies including reflexology, herbalism, and aromatherapy.

Lyn is also skilled in working with social media.

Her role on the Board involves managing Spiritualism NZ’s social media presence, creating photos for webinars, public holidays and other interesting events.

Fun fact: She met a Welsh Tom Jones impersonator in a swimming pool in Vanuatu, who had sung with Tom in their early days.
